About Pictayo (pic-TAH-yo)

Pictayo was inspired by the Filipino and Taglish phrase “Pic tayo,” meaning “Let’s take a picture.” It reflects the familiar moment when family or friends gather together to capture a memory. Pictayo is made for everyone.

Pictayo turns those individual pictures into something more meaningful: a visual timeline and map showing when and where your memories happened.

Privacy

Your photos and videos stay in your browser. Pictayo has no media backend and does not upload your library.

What stays on this device

Imported media, derived previews, filenames, captions, and capture timestamps are stored locally in your browser. Browser storage is not encrypted by Pictayo, so protect your browser profile and clear imported items on a shared device.

Location services

When a file contains GPS coordinates, Pictayo shares coordinates—but never the photo or video—with BigDataCloud for place names, OpenStreetMap Overpass services for nearby landmarks and dining suggestions, and Google Maps when a map is displayed or opened. These providers also receive normal connection information such as your IP address, and their own privacy policies apply.

Feedback

Feedback sends the category, text you enter, current page, viewport size, app version, and browser information to a dedicated feedback service. It creates a public issue, so do not include personal information, private photo details, email addresses, passwords, or links. Photos are never attached.

Usage counts

When an import finishes, Pictayo adds 1 to a daily total so we can tell the app is being used. It sends only the word “import” — no identifier, no account, no cookie, no device or browser details — and nothing is stored that could be traced back to you or link one visit to another. The total is a single number per day. A tab that imports several times is counted once, and no count is sent if you never import.

Exports and sharing

An exported album is a folder of your own photos, so every page asks search engines not to index it and the album ships a robots.txt disallowing crawlers. That is a request crawlers honour, not a security control — anyone with the link can still open it.

Your controls

Removing one item or clearing Pictayo deletes only the browser-stored copies. Your original files are never changed, moved, or deleted.
